Garden Family Photos in Boise

Natural family photos that focus on connection and play at Idaho Botanical Garden

I had so much fun photographing this sweet family at the Idaho Botanical Garden in Boise! The garden was full of life and color, creating the perfect setting for their garden family photos. What I loved most about this session was the connection captured—in these photographs are some of the most authentic laughs and snuggles between this family of three.

Family photos in the garden

I love when we choose a location for family photos that allows exploration and play! With lush greenery, winding pathways and colorful blooms, we had the chance to explore together while capturing candid moments of play and connection. Taking family photos in a spot like a garden allows such natural interactions, and the photographs from Mary & Spencer’s session capture just that. I love the creativity, laughter, and the small in-between moments that tell the story of what it’s like to belong to their family.

Where to take garden family photos in Boise

If you’re dreaming of garden family photos in Boise, the Idaho Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful locations to consider. With a mix of flowering gardens, shaded paths, and open lawns, it offers endless variety within just a short walk. In the spring and summer, vibrant colors bring photos to life, while fall offers warm golden tones for an autumn vibe. The garden also has unique features like stone walls, arched trellises, and hidden corners that make each session feel a little different. It’s a location that’s both scenic and family-friendly, giving kids space to explore while parents get to enjoy the beauty of the setting.

If you’re looking for garden vibes outside of the Botanical Garden, consider planning a session during wildflower season in the foothills, exploring private locations (like maybe your own backyard?), or one of the following garden style locations in the Treasure Valley:

How to plan a photography session at Idaho Botanical Garden

Interested in planning your own garden family photos at the Idaho Botanical Garden? Here are some of my top tips:

  • The garden requires a photography permit or membership for sessions, so hire a photographer who already has one (hey!) or be prepared to purchase one for your session.
  • Check the Idaho Botanical Garden website and calendar while planning your session. The garden is closed on days there is a concert at Outlaw field, and photo sessions have to take place while the gardens are open.
  • Consider a weekday session if your schedule allows. The garden is definitely more busy on Saturdays and Sundays, so it’s often easier to take photos there on weekdays.
  • Most importantly, come ready to play, laugh, and enjoy time together as a family! The most memorable photos come from the authentic moments, and this garden is the perfect place to let those moments unfold.

This session was such a wonderful reminder of how meaningful family photos can be when families focus on each other instead of the outcome during family photos. If you’re ready to create your own memories with garden family photos in Boise, I’d love to help you plan the perfect session. Inquire on my website to get in touch!

Family Photographer in Boise

I’m Becky, a lifestyle and family photographer in Idaho where I live with my husband and son. Each time I pick up my mom’s old film camera to snap a photo of my boys or grab a phone photo of a mundane moment with my son makes me a better photographer for my clients. As an artist I’m not only creating my favorite work with clients. Day in and day out, I’m capturing the things in my own life worth remembering—the stories I’ll be retelling for years—and I’d love to do that for you.

I love photographing families and the life they are building together. While I love creating beautiful photographs that catalog another year gone by for families, I’m obsessed with capturing raw interactions and families as they truly are. What I hope for my family photography sessions is that they become a time for families to connect with their loved ones in a way that’s meaningful to them.

Wedding photography is my heartbeat. For me, it holds the perfect tension between creativity and authenticity, observation and connection. In front of my camera clients transform to friends, and behind it you'll usually find me tearing up, cheering you on, or holding my breath because of the raw goodness of the moment at hand.
