Being a wedding photographer, photographing in all kinds of spaces comes with the job. From a welcome party at BIÂN to a lively wedding reception at the InterContinental Chicago, Beth and Michael celebrated their wedding weekend with their closest friends and family in their home city, Chicago. Over the course of the weekend festivities, I got to be in the room for so many meaningful moments.
Beth and Michael hosted their close family and friends during a welcome party at BIÂN, a social and wellness club located on the Chicago River. I met them there a few minutes early to catch up and take a few photos of just the two of them. With last minute wedding details coming together, out of town guests arriving, and less than 24 hours before they’d be married, it was the perfect way to slow down, and re-center before joining their crew.

On the morning of their wedding, Beth and Michael chose to spend a few minutes together sharing their vows. Still in their pajamas, they sat on the edge of the bed together and read their promises to each other. Watching them take that time to start the day together was so beautiful. I snapped a few photos before stepping out to give them a few minutes alone. Starting off with something that meaningful, I knew the day was going to be a good one.

After Beth and Michael finished getting ready, we took the elevator up to the rooftop at InterContinental. Being up there had this feeling of immersion: the blue sky above and city buildings standing tall all around. Beth and Michael saw each other “wedding ready” for the first time on that rooftop and I’m sure they’ll never forget it. We walked back down to Michigan Avenue for a few photos together and with their wedding party before taking the celebration back to the InterContinental.

The team at Great Events put together an unforgettable wedding for Beth and Michael in the Grand Ballroom at the InterContinental. The Grand Ballroom feels historic and ornate. It’s the kind of space where the longer you spend in it, the more details you notice. As I watched Beth and Michael move through the evening, I loved how the same thing happened with them. The more I observed them with each other and with the people who know them best, the more I saw the subtleties of their love, the way they bring out the best in each other.

Here's what Beth & Michael said about working with us:
"Becky and Kaleb are the BEST! They shot our engagement photoshoot, rehearsal dinner, and wedding. The photos we received are amazing and I could not be happier!! I cannot recommend them enough. From our first meeting with Becky, we knew we were in good hands. Becky put us so at ease leading up to the wedding and on the day itself. I could write a thousand more words about why you should pick Becky and Kaleb to photograph your events, but I’m going to let these photos speak for themselves."

Photographing weddings is personal work and I love the humanness of the process. Kaleb and I were able to photograph Beth and Michael’s engagement photos in Chicago before being alongside them again for their wedding weekend, and it was such a gift to photograph them and their loved ones.

I’m Becky, a photographer based in Boise, Idaho where I live with my favorite guy and our son. I grew up on the south side of Chicago and travel back often to photograph weddings in Chicago. I love photograph ing weddings—the celebrations that mark the beginning of lifelong stories that are so significant. Being invited into the most personal celebrations and intimate stories is one of my greatest privileges as a photographer. Beyond amazing locations and beautiful details, I love photography because of the people. Camera in hand, I simultaneously get to know people and give them the gift of seeing a deeper part of themselves and the people they love.

Wedding photography is my heartbeat. For me, it holds the perfect tension between creativity and authenticity, observation and connection. In front of my camera clients transform to friends, and behind it you'll usually find me tearing up, cheering you on, or holding my breath because of the raw goodness of the moment at hand.
