I’ve been photographing this family for years and when we were chatting about their fall family photos, Jodi mentioned the idea of just doing them at home in the yard. All summer long the kids would run around the yard to play after dinner, usually ending the night with a popsicle as the sunlight turned golden. After hearing Jodi describe their family routine, I knew it was perfect.
I drove up and the kids were already outside in their bare feet. I got out my cameras and showed them to the older girls who seemed interested in my every move. Their curious eyes soon shifted from hesitant observation to all out playmate energy as we started playing in the yard. They showed me all their toys, roamed the yard, got out their bikes, played on the swings, and ran around like they always do when I’m not there, and I spent the evening capturing their family on their own stomping grounds. So many of the pictures we created together that evening will be defining marks of this season for this family, because they are real moments in their everyday places.
It was one of the hottest nights in northwest Indiana for early fall and by the time we were done playing and taking family pictures in the backyard, everyone’s cheeks were pink from the heat. I sat in my car, covered in mosquito bites with the biggest smile on my face because I knew these pictures would mean so much to this family.

I’m Becky, a lifestyle and family photographer in Idaho where I live with my husband and son. Growing up in northwest Indiana, I return often to photograph beloved clients and new families. As an artist I’m not only creating my favorite work with clients. Day in and day out, I’m capturing the things in my own life worth remembering—the stories I’ll be retelling for years—and I’d love to do that for you.

I love photographing families and the life they are building together. While I love creating beautiful photographs that catalog another year gone by for families, I’m obsessed with capturing raw interactions and families as they truly are. What I hope for my lifestyle and family sessions is that they become a time for families to connect with their loved ones in a way that’s meaningful to them.

Wedding photography is my heartbeat. For me, it holds the perfect tension between creativity and authenticity, observation and connection. In front of my camera clients transform to friends, and behind it you'll usually find me tearing up, cheering you on, or holding my breath because of the raw goodness of the moment at hand.
