Kendra and Sean are the kind of people you get lost in conversation with. We spent a couple hours taking engagement photos together along the Boise river, and by the time their photo session ended, they felt like friends.
One of the first things that bonded us together was that we both moved from Chicago to Boise. While Kendra and Sean didn’t meet in Boise, it was quickly on its way to becoming a huge piece of their story together—moving across the country there, buying their first home, hosting their wedding in Boise. For their engagement photos, Kendra and Sean wanted to capture the places they love to spend time together around Boise, and the river is one of them! We found a quiet spot along the Boise River where the sun was dappling through the trees and reflecting off the flowing water.
One of the most common things couples tell me is this: we don’t feel super comfortable in front of the camera. Spoiler—almost no one does. As a photographer, I love my job because of the fusion of people and creativity. I love to create, to make something moving, but I also love people. And I don’t just mean I’m pretty extroverted and love to be with people. I love humanity and relationships and the way people are. I love connecting with people and creating space for them to be themselves. So when people step in front of my camera, I’m not “making them feel comfortable” as much as I am trying to connect, to be open, to talk and move in a way that leads with the kind of vulnerability and connection I think they’ll share back with me. And then I’m also guiding the session by helping people focus on and be present with each other. I’ve been practicing this approach for a lot of years, and when I went through Kendra and Sean’s photos after their engagement session with me, I just kept smiling at how much they were able to open up, at how much love and fun and friendship I see in their photos.

I’m Becky, a photographer based in Idaho where I live with my favorite guy and our son. Being invited into the most personal celebrations and intimate stories is one of my greatest privileges as a photographer. Beyond amazing locations, I love photography because of the people. Camera in hand, I simultaneously get to know people and give them the gift of seeing a deeper part of themselves and the people they love. I believe in photographs that are evocative, nuanced, and personal, and I’d love to create some for you.

Wedding photography is my heartbeat. For me, it holds the perfect tension between creativity and authenticity, observation and connection. In front of my camera clients transform to friends, and behind it you'll usually find me tearing up, cheering you on, or holding my breath because of the raw goodness of the moment at hand.
